| April 23, 2005 - 29 and some months...again |
| Dear Friends, tomorrow is my glorious birthday and guess what! I'll be 29 and some months...again! Isn't that marvelous? Now, I have to say that I have no special plans because of something a bit odd that happened. A few weeks ago a friend of mine found out it was my birthday and she said, "Wow! Your birthday's coming up! I'm going to throw a party for you so make certain you hold that day open." Then she jotted something down in her little day planner. Well a couple of weeks after that I went to the dentist to have some cleaning done and the receptionist there, whom I know, said, "Andrea told me she's giving you a party." And I said, "Yes, but I don't know when it is." Well, my dears, yesterday was the dental receptionist's birthday (I'll call her Lisa) and I bought her a birthday drink at Ye Olde Watering Hole. So while everyone was drankin' 'n' sangin', I asked Lisa had she heard anything about when my party was, because I hadn't. And she answered no and expressed surprise that Andrea hadn't told me when and where my own party was. So I said, "Well, maybe something came up and she feels like she can't do it." So I just decided to let the matter lie and I'll just go out and have my own good time. It seems a bit odd, but then maybe she lost her day planner or something. Who knows? After all, we are talking about the denizens of Ye Olde Watering Hole. It's just a bit annoying because I've had to ask other people who wanted to do stuff to hold off or reschedule in order to accommodate Andrea. But frankly that's worked out well. Last Sunday my friend, Marcello, took me out with a bunch of other friends and we had a grand old time. And next Saturday I'm being taken out to din-din although I don't yet know where. So I guess my celebrations are just spreading themselves out over a birthday month, n'est-ce pas? Oh by the way, I got a sassy birthday card from my mother that said, ""Birthdays always remind me of the giant redwoods on the West Coast. The way they stand tall and proud, year after year, century afte century. Their majestic beauty never fails to take my breath away. Thank you for planting them. Happy Birthday." Well! Although it was quite amusing to read that at 5:00 a.m., I wonder if she thought about what it meant regarding her own age. I mean after all, if I planted the redwood trees, then she would have had to have been around at least for the formation of the Rockies! N'est-ce pas? I had my performance review this week, dear friends. And it was positively glowing! They sang a litany of my praises, EXCEPT for the little line that read "Client wishes to caution JOHNNYLEEN that his satirical wit may be misconstrued by newcomers to the team and users." Fiddle-lee-dee-dee! As Alice said to the caterpillar. All JOHNNYLEEN does is try to brighten the drab lives of the ordinary worker bee. JOHNNYLEEN just wishes to bring a slight smile to worried faces, a gleam to dull eyes, a ray of sunshine in the depths of cubicle and particle board despair. N'est-ce pas?
