Welcome to Newfoundland

Sackville NB to St Martin's NB
208 Miles

Breakfast is french toast and all the usual fixings. Today will be a relaxing ride as we are focused on checking out the sights in and around the Bay of Fundy.

Now there is a tourist sign just outside of Sackville that points to the Fundy trail, of course somehow we missed it and rode around aimlessly for about half an hour before we regained our bearings. Actually we looked at the map. So now were off north to Moncton then south to the Fundy trail. The road leading out of Moncton follows this river that empties into the ocean. Whats interresting is the color of the water. I'm guessing that the riverbed is muddy or silty, as the water looks almost like flowing chocolate. Then it happens, I start hearing the oompa loompa song im my head dammit. I seem to remember a sign that said it was the chocolate river, but I have been unable to confirm this.

Back on the ferry I found a brochure for the Bay of Fundy that had a picture of these huge stone arches near the water, thats what I wanted to see. We came upon a sign for the Hopewell rocks that looks interresting, so we pull in to check them out. In the parking lot we run into a couple on a Harley who suggest that we save our money. It seems the tide is in and we can't see the rocks for another 3 and a half hours, but the park will gladly take out 5 bucks and show us pictures of the rocks. We decide to push on towards Fundy National Park. We would later find out that the arches I was searching for were part of the hopewell rocks. Foiled again!

We get to a place called devils half acre and hike a short trail through the woods/coastal cliffs. Its a dark place with crevaces off the sides of the trails. There is a story about this being a playground for the devil on the sign at the trail head. If it wasn't for the 2 van loads of college girls from upstate NY hiking the trail with us I might have been scared half to death hehehe. We ride on and hike to the water at the Point Wolfe covered bridge, and also at Pointe Wolfe beach.
What an appetite I've worked up!

We eat in Sussex, and after flirting with the waitress a bit, we head to St Martin's where we are the only guests at The Village B+B. We talk with the woman for a bit about when she worked out in British Columbia in a sawmill, before heading off to dreamland.
