We woke up to much of the same beautiful weather as yesterday. I woke up later than everyone else, just my nature I guess, I've never been much for mornings. What Sean and I failed to see last night was the sign that said healthy breakfast served here. This means we got yogurt, homemade granola, and fresh fruit, a meal fit for a squirrel. At the breakfast table we met the other guests of the inn, a couple who were horticulturist's from Ontario on their way to Nova Scotia on holiday. We talked about computers and their Volkswagon Bug, but for the life of me I can't remember their names.
We rode on towards North Sydney and the ferry that would take us to Newfoundland. To break things up a bit we took route 6 after Amherst, NS, and because it took a line closer to the shoreline. We passed through lots of rolling hills, farmland, and were treated to some nice views of the Nova Scotia coastline. We began following a couple on a Harley, and ended up chatting briefly while waiting for some road construction. We met up with them a little while later at a country store and chatted for sometime while shaking the road off. They were Steve and Alice from Maine somewhere near Sugarloaf, and they too were headed to Newfoundland. They'd vacationed there many times and had bought a vacation home near Twillingate.
We had reservations for the ferry for tommorrow, but we were going to try to get on today, which we did. Steve and Alice were on the 1130 pm ferry, and we were going to try to get on the 430 pm ferry that Alice told us about. Unfortunately, there was no 430 pm ferry today, Alice had read the schedule wrong and we ended up on the 1130 pm ferry with them. Marine Atlantic Ferry Home Page We had some time to kill now, so we went to the mall, had some food, took a nap in the park. We met up again with Steve and Alice, and also met some guys from New Brunswick on newer metric cruisers. We were to sail on the Leif Erickson, Marine Canada's newest ferry, what a piece of crap! The boat is small, we loaded late, they were welding the boat feverishly before we left, and the air conditioning was out in the forward area where the most comfortable seats just happened to be. It was rough but I dozed off here and there and dreamt about Newfoundland.
