Okay the day is finally here, Newfoundland here I come. I don't know what it is about going on vacation, but since I was little I get so filled up with anticipation that I rarely get any sleep the night before. Last night was no different as I only got about five hours of sleep. This was not a problem when I was ten and dad was doing the driving but now its me relying on me. Hopefully the adreniline will keep me straight.
The plan was to meet Sean at his house at six am, and he would be fed and ready to go. He was packing when I walked in and we left a little before seven. The plan today was to get as close to the ferry in North Sydney Nova Scotia as we could without killing ourselves.
We headed out rt 101 and then north on rt95. I never realized how big Maine was until I had to drive through it. After you leave the cities, its miles and miles of pine trees on the left of the road and pine trees on the right. On the northern most stretch we pass Mt Khatadin, the start of the Appalachian Trail, and the tallest mountain in Maine. We crossed the border at Houlton, ME without a hitch and put the helmets on.
New Brunswick while a geographic milestone on our trip, the scenery has changed very little. New Brunswick is Maine on the metric system. After we pass Fredrickton we start to zig-zag in and out of a river which is a nice change. The weather couldn't be any nicer, upper eighties(F) and sunny.
We end up in Sackville New Brunswick just a few miles short of the Nova Scotia border and decide its time to call it a night. We stay at the Harbourmaster's House Bed and Breakfast. Sean loves B+B's so he'll proabably drag me to every everyone in Atlantic Canada, I guess it will be a nice change. Sackville has already rolled up the sidewalks for the night, but we do manage to find a pizza joint and a bar that are still open. I finish off the night with a panzerotti and a beer.
