Fantasy Comics was Richard Meffley's sincere and earnest project, from conception all the way to follow-through. In the past, he had always been encouraged to assume editorial assignments (Sorry Days #2 for instance), and the whole team was pretty motivated for what was Meffley's first start-to-finish solo effort launched near the end of 1979, after the group had been firmly established in their new high school. The comic was highly advertised for months before it finally made it to print, with a January 1980 cover date. Unfortunately, what started out as a robust dash early on ultimately limped towards completion with considerable assistance from Beers, and reception to Meffley's work was lukewarm. There would be no second issue.
John still appreciated the efforts of Rich, or any of his colleagues, to express themselves in the pages of MC Comics.
