The Winetree
The Liquor Store Years
I worked at a liquor store for about 15 months.  It was an interesting experience; I had a lot of time on my hands during those long hours on my way to 11pm or later.  Along the way I met two great guys.  Adam Herring and Brian Randolph, they are great guys.  I am glad to know them and happy that they still will talk to me despite me moving away to Indianapolis.   This is the place where I learned so much about alcohol, specifically wines.  The wine tastings were awesome.  In fact, the store still has them during the non-summer months on Thursdays.
Adam and I shared many a long talks about various things, quite often they were about the books we were reading.  I am not sure I would have gotten the same joy out of reading Robert Jordan, if he didn't help me understand the complexities of the stories.  Plus Adam recommended a few books that I would never have picked up.
Brian and I had way too many discussions about topics we never had any business talking about.  Still we had a lot of fun talking completely out of turn.  It was probably the major reason that the two of us kept our sanity for those long Friday and Saturday nights.  The crosswords were a great time, and so were the creative games we came up with during those long hours.  I am glad that Brian can still talk to me despite how much I talked.
