Evansville is the third largest city in the state of Indiana.  It is situated on the Ohio River a few miles before the Wabash joins the joins the Ohio.  The city is one of two incorporated areas in Vanderburgh County.  The city was founded in the early 1800s, while the area was being organized into the Indiana Territory out of the Northwest Territory and eventually into the 19th state of United States in 1816.

Evansville is situated near US Highway 41 and I-64.  These are major highways in the United States that run from Chicago to the gulf shore and from Washington, D.C. to St. Louis respectively.  Currently the state of Indiana is comtemplating extending I-69 from Indianapolis down to Evansville.  This interstate would connect Evansville, Bloomington and Indianapolis, as well as creating a means to get around Southwestern Indiana.  The connections to the rest of the country do not stop there.  The railroads are extensive in the area, plus the Ohio River is a major source of transportation in the United States.  Evansville is located a few miles east of where the Wabash River joins the Ohio River.  Also a recent study that was used to bisect the country so that half of the U.S. population is north and south of an axis line that runs east to west, as well as an axis line that runs north to south that puts half of U.S. population east and west of that axis.  Theses axes bisect near Evansville.  So in many aspects Evansville is situated on a crossroads of the United States in many ways.
