Tanaka has people around the entire track. I made many of  mine from the typical MCCR and Scalextric figures. To fill out the track I used military figures which come in 1/35 scale painted to represent typical people found at the track on any given Sunday.

By using military models you can also add things like trucks, motorcycles, and other odds and ends by painting them in track colors. Often you'll find old surplus military jeeps and trucks at tracks, so the models fit right in. Paint the figures and place them like civilians or workers.  You'll find links to figures and hardware that may fit into your layout on my links page.

Tips for Finishing your Figures

1. Paint your figures in the same order you'd get dressed.

2. Start with the skin tone, then clothing.

3. When using military figures discard the weapons. Don't be afraid to add details like big camera lenses made from plastic pipe found at your local hobby shop.

4. I use JB Quick Weld to add details like AJ's gut onto my figures. I also use it to create the top of the heads of the military figures that should use helmets. It dries fast and can be filed into shape after only a short time. Be creative.

5. Plan the look of your workers. Different tracks have different standards for uniforms. Just be sure to make similar people the same basic colors whatever style you like. All my corner workers wear white since this is the style I see most often at most regional tracks.

6. Be sure to make some figures represent real people. Pick your favorite drivers, owners, crew members and immortalize them in plastic.

7. When placing trees be sure to mix them up. In real life trees are not uniform unless they are planted that way by someone. Place uniform trees together only in places that would look as if they were landscaped that way on purpose. Otherwise mix them up for a more realistic look.
