| Soon I am going to be installing new quarter panels. Before I do that I want to get my doors installed and aligned properly to insure good quarter alignment. To prepare for this I am blasting my door jambs. You want to be sure to cover everything if you do this because sand gets everywhere. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I left the bolts in place while blasting to keep sand out and strip them as well. During the process I rotated them to get all sides. I also stuck a plug in open holes to keep the sand out. Then I wiped the bare metal with stabilizer when I was done. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| While cleaning out the sealer, I found some rust. This will have to be completely blasted away to make sure it doesn't come peeking through my paint in a couple of months. To get in the cracks I used some OxiSolve. Once I get all of this cleaned thoroughly I will reseal the seams to make sure moisture doesn't get in and create more rust. |

| I have found that these exacto scrapers work very well in tight areas. And if they get dull you can just replace the blade. Since they are very sharp, they are good for applications where you need to remove something without damaging the surface below. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| My door hinges had quite a bit of paint build up on them, so I used this sand blaster to take them to bare metal. I also installed a hinge repair kit so that they will work like new again. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Once the hinges were completely free of paint and contaminants, I sprayed them with etching primer. Then, after scuffing them with 180 grit, I covered them with sealer as well. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| After using stripper on the passenger door, I blasted the jamb area. When I did this it revealed a rusted out spot at the bottom rear that needed some new metal. After welding that in, I treated the seams with oxisolve to prevent future rust. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| After grinding the welds, I coated the door with etching primer. Now it is ready to be sealed and hung. I'm slowly getting closer to the quarter panel part of the job. The time I spent on these quarters was wasted, they were just too far gone. It's time for some new metal. I bought a couple of full quarters from Classic Industries and put them in the attic for now to keep them from getting damaged. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The passenger door is sealed and installed. The driver door isn't rusted through so it should go a lot quicker. Once I have it installed it will be time to send the car over to Robert's to do the quarterpanel and rear sheet metal installation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Both doors are primed, sealed and on now. I called Robert to get ready for quarter panel installation. We will be temporarily delayed while he repaints his truck. But that won't take long, so stay tuned...... Quick, click here. |
