Back to the Weekly Restoration Page
It's time to fix the damage the water from the leaky windows did.  I pulled out and pitched the nasty carpet and insulation.  After cleaning the floor with a wire brush, I could see it needed repair.  On the driver's side I was able to fab a patch panel.  But as you can see from this panel on the left, the passenger side had major rust.  I ordered a partial floor panel from classic industries.
Using the patch panel as a template, I cut out the bad metal, leaving enough metal to over lap to get a solid weld.  At this point, the car is ready for serious racing, Fred Flinstone style.
Here is the new panel in place. Before welding, I put in a couple of sheet metal screws to pull it up tight.  I'll show more pictures of the job when I get the film back.
Well, I guess I won't have to wait on film anymore!  I got a cool digital camera for father's day.  So here is the welded in floor section.  Below is where I  welded the seat support back in. Next I will finish cleaning the entire floor and seal it to prevent future rust.
Ok, I know I'm a little slow.  I finally got the rust killer on.  This stuff is called Corroless.  It's supposed to stop rust, so call this an experiment.  We'll see.  I put seam sealer on it, so hopefully I'll get it topcoated this week.
Ok, here it is topcoated.  Now its time to install some hardware and prep the Door Jambs.
