Martha Luman Dearing is buried in Section A, Row 4,
Overton City Cemetery, Overton, Rusk County, Texas.

        Of the twelve children of John Henry Luman and Mary Jane Weatherford, Martha Luman Dearing had the most children. She married in 1899 at age 15 and had 12 children herself, all of them born between the years 1901 and 1924. The first three of those children did not live to be grown. Alvin, a toddler, died in 1902. Two-year-old Johnnie Marvin died from flux in 1903. The third child died as an infant and was unnamed.Martha's husband Waymon was murdered in 1933. In 1940, Martha buried two of her children within a three-week period. Clarence was 34 years old; Reba was 28.
        Martha had 17 grandchildren, two of whom were the twin sons of George Arling Dearing. Both boys went to college on full athletic scholarships. Harlon was a football hero and captain of the team at Rice University, where he graduated in 1967 with a degree in business. George attended Trinity in San Antonio on a baseball scholarship until a knee injury ended his sports career. He transferred to Lamar Tech, where he earned a degree in history. Harlon and George were well-known athletes, famous all over the state for their athletic abilities.
        There was a pair of twin boys in the next two successive generations of Martha Luman Dearing. Eugene Waymon Dearing Bray produced a pair of twin great grandsons, and one of them had a set of twin boys.
        The Dearing great grandchildren are accomplishing many things in their chosen fields. George Arling Dearing III earned a B.A. in communications/journalism from the University of Houston. April Foster, who earned a B.A. from Liberty University in Lynchburg VA, is enrolled in the political theory/theology graduate program at the University of London in England. Her sister Amber Foster is a sophomore government major at Liberty University. Their brother, Don Foster, Jr., completed a tour of duty in the U. S. Navy. Don's great grandfather Waymon Dearing was a veteran of the Cuban campaign in the Spanish American War. His great great grandfather, John Henry Luman, was too young to enlist in the Civil War, but he drove a team in support of the war effort.
        Denver Dearing, son of Martha, lives in Denver City, Texas, where he has operated a welding business since 1944.

She married (1) WAYMAN FRANKLIN DEARING September 03, 1899 in Garrison, Texas, by C. Wheeler, Minister of the Gospel (Source: San Augustine County, Texas, REF # 3-225.), son of UNKNOWN DEARING. He was born December 1874 in Indian Territory (as shown on 1900 census), and died November 15, 1933 in Blanchard, Caddo Parish, Louisiana (Source: Louisiana State Board of Health.). She married (2) TOMMY THOMAS.

Reba Jernigan Powers found her gravesite in the Overton City Cemetery on November 26, 1999. Even though she remarried her gravestone says "Martha Dearing".

Aunt Martha Dearing is remembered by her nieces and nephews as a free spirit who bobbed her hair and dyed it red in a day when doing so invited much criticism for her "worldliness," and as one who had a fabulous sense of humor.

Well baby I thought I would have done been down there but that cold spell came while I was over in Texas so I knew it would be too cold to ride a freight train and I haven't got me any passinger trains yet HAHA. So I decided to wait until the weather got better.

Now honey you are sure mistaken about me not loving you much for I love you above all things and you said if I came down there you wasn't going to let me leave. Well Kid here is the way I feel about things now. If you care for me like you say you do and as much as I do for you - and Mr. & Mrs. Hubble can stand the idea I don't think I will want to leave. Now that might kindly be a shock to you but I love you and I am not doing any good running around so if you care for me that much I will come down there and work a while and we will make a leap at life from a different angle. What do you say? Of course times are hard and I am broke now and all like that but surely it will change some time later on.

Now darling think it over and write me just as soon as you get this for I will be anxious to know what you think.

Yes wouldn't you have loved to see????????????? Clyde and Florence talking. I sure would like to see Clyde. He seems almost like a brother to me.

My Dear Sweet Mother, Daddy and Kids.

How are you all by now? Fine I do hope. We are all O.K.

I almost feel good as new now. The baby is two weeks old today. He was born on Wednesday and I sat up almost all day Sunday and Monday. I cought them all gone to the field but Lena and got up and have been up ever since but Mrs. Dearing sure didn't ???? out and Curtis did too.

Curtis is at Overton trying to find a job. He left Sunday and I sure am lonesome to see him. He sure is crazy about the baby. We named him Waymon Eugene after Curtis, Mr. Dearing and me and Daddy. I named him.

Mama he is the sweetest thing in the world. When he was a week old everybody thought he was at least a month old. And was smiling at 4 days old.

He has a forehead just like Dady and eyes like me and some people says he favors Curtis. He has hands just like Curtis. He weighed 10 pounds when he was 3 days old and now weighs 12 pounds.

Well Mama maby it won't be long until I can see you all for Curtis said just as soon as he could get an old car riged up and a little gas money he was ???????? way and Mrs. Dearing says she would like to go with us. If Curtis could get a steady job for about 15 or 20 days we could be on our way. I guess you will be proud to see Chock. I would sorta like to see him.

Arling Dearing's daughter Shirley Foster says that her mom told her years ago that her dad's real name was George Washington Arling Dearing, but it embarrassed him so bad that he threatened her and everybody else not to tell it. He did not have a birth certificate, and when he got one later in life, you can bet it didn't have Washington on it! (March 2000)

    One night while on deployment, Don Jr. and his roommate turned out the lights to go to
sleep. Suddenly, a mouse ran across the roommate's chest, and thus ensued this chain of
events which Don Jr. related to his parents via email the next day:
    This is one account of the events that took place on February 5, 1999, Masirah, Oman, Wadi
Mathrob, Room 21. At approximately 0012 on 5 February, an enemy of unknown origin was
detected aurally by Don. At 0013 visual detection was obtained by the use of a desktop
illumination device, but the Hun remained out of weapons range. The enemy was immediately
recognized to be the notoriously evil Dr. Nibbles. This marked the beginning of
Operation Desert Whack.
    Immediately the other 2 residents of area 21 were alerted and placed on Battle Condition 1;
weapons cocked, locked, and ready to rock. At 0015 Don, armed with a weapon code named
"golf club" moved into action immediately, yet the enemy quickly eluded the intitial strike. From
0015 to 0020 a plan of action was devised, as Dr. Nibbles remained behind cover, planning his
escape. 0021 - the warriors take to their recently assigned battle stations. Don - right flank, armed
with the "golf club". Dane - high ground overlooking the enemy stronghold, armed with the feared
"pointy stick". Eddy - left flank, armed with the cumbersome, yet effective "mop". 0023 - Don
strikes the initial blow to the right flank, driving the enemy towards Dane, but the "pointy stick" was
of no use.
    It was all up to Eddy now. Tensions high, we put our fear in check. This is the time that heroes
are made. 0024- the enemy charges Eddy, but due to his superior mobility and tactical prowess,
managed to escape the "mop" with not so much as a scratch. Under the cover of the bed,
Dr. Nibbles felt a sense of false security, which almost led to his untimely demise. 0025 - Don
reattacks with the " golf club", but hesitated at the last moment for fear of a retaliatory charge.
    This brief moment gave the enemy just enough time to bolt for the large chair, where he
disappeared and has not been sighted since. At 0045, after trying in vain to gain contact on the
enemy, another plan was devised. Mobile Attack Unit Charlie Alpha Tango, otherwise known as
C. A. T. , was located in the bushes near unit 21 and recruited to duty immediately. Begin
Operation Desert Fleabag.
    After over 30 minutes of fierce combat Don, Dane, and Eddy saw a ray of hope, for C. A. T.
appeared to have caught the scent of the evil minion of the night. Little did the fatigued warriors
know, but C. A. T. had no intentions of joining the fight. C. A. T. was lulled by the air conditioner
and was just looking for a quiet place to shack up for the night.
    No attempt was made to glorify or downplay the tragic incidents that were just recounted
to you, the reader. This gruesome battle continues to wage throughout unit 21 on a nightly
basis. I will report new developments as they arise. Thank you for your support.
