"The Angel Who Looks After Me"
I am lying in bed,
Thinking of what she said,
When she told me she'll always be around.
Every time we tried,
I always cried,
But tonight, I don't make a sound.
She always wanted to be
Nothing more than free
Of her heart's own cynical dreams.
She never knew
Just what to do,
Until she realized that she had wings.
It was foolish of me
To think that she
Would always be only mine.
By the look in her eyes,
It was no surprise;
I knew it would only be time.
I gave her my word,
If it ever occurred,
Dejection she would never find.
So when she decided to go,
I knew I couldn't say no,
Though I wish she'd changed her mind.
She told me she was going,
And I nodded knowing,
This would probably be the last time.
We were going around;
I never thought we'd have found
The end of this never-ending line.
I watched her fly away,
With a smile on my face:
This was her long-awaited flight.
Finally she'd be
Away from me,
But she'll always have me in sight.
I want to believe,
She'll never leave,
And she'll always be somewhere to see.
That's only because
She is and always was
The Angel who looks after me.
