They boarded the Hamburg-Amerika Line passenger ship, the SS President Lincoln on March 1, 1913.  Two weeks later, on March 14, they arrived seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time.  They began their new life by settling in Dickson City, Pennsylvania. William, as he was now called, quickly found work in the coal mines around Scranton.

The family grew quickly.  In 1920, the family had grown to four children, as shown below in this extract from census records. The fifth child, another daughter arrived later that same year.

1920 Census  Lackawanna County, Dickson City PA

Names often change as families move.  The name Woroniecki is no different.  William's first name and that of his oldest son had already been changed to a more English sounding name, though not the usual translation, Vincent.   The family name remained Woroniecki for several years, but as the younger generations began school, they began using easier to spell variations, Warnetsky and Warnetski.   In school, Zenon also became James.

Other related family names include: Zadrozny, Paruzynski, Stephenson, Brojack, Schneider.

Wincenty had at least two brothers who immigrated to America about the same time.  They lost touch with the relatives in Pennsylvania.  It is believed that one settled in the east another in the west.  There are at least seven other men with the last name Woroniecki of the same generation as Wincenty.  These men lived in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, North Dakota, California and Washington State.

According to immigration records, the family came from the village of "Gudakoupe" which is now called
Gudakampis and is located about 20 miles south of Vilnius (former Wilno) the capital of present-day Lithuania.

Woroniecki
Bogdanowicz, Paruzynski

The S.S. President Linclon.  This ship carried Wincenty Woroniecki and his family to America in 1913.
Wincenty Woroniecki left Poland with his wife and young son to follow his dream.  He dreamed of a new life in America, free of the repressive Russian Imperial Government that forced him to serve in its army.

His wife,
Helen Bodganowicz, came from a wealthy family.  Their child was less than 6 months old when they departed Poland for Hamburg, where they hoped to catch a ship to America.
