Zadrozny Family History
The Polish name Zadrozny is classified as being of habitational origin.  Habitation names are those family names which are derived from either the location of the place of residence of the initial bearer or from the name of the town or village whence he hailed.  In some instances, a habitation name refers to a residence which was distinguished by a sign or engraving usually displayed over the door.  In this particular instance, the name Zadrozny, we have a derivation of the term "zadrozny" which is in turn derived from the words "za.." -beyond, "..daroga" -path.  Thus, the surname Zadrozny initially referred to one who lived beyond the path or small road.  Variants of the surname Zadrozny include Zadroga, Zadruzynski, Zadrozynski, Zadrozinski, Zadorozny, Zadruzny and Droga.
References to the surname Zadrozny or to one of its variants include a record of Anna Zadruzyski, daughter of Mathias Zadruzynski and Marianna Maczkoska, which took place in a Catholic Church in Strasburg, West Prussia, on October 15th, 1843.  Research is however, ongoing and this name may have been documented even earlier tha this date. 

The great European emmigrations of the early nineteeth century introduced many Eastern European names into North America, including this one.  We read of one Bronislaw Zadrozny, a resident of New York, and Franics Zadrozny, a resident of Massachusetts, who were born on the 2nd of October 1882 and the 7th of March 1899 respectively.
