One of the finest double-edged swords in my life was this idea to open my home to travellers, temporary Portlanders and those in transition on a not-for-profit basis and with open ended move-on dates. It means that room availability can be very quick to change. So, amongst all the other details of uprooting yourself, you'll have to be really on top of flashing e-mails back and forth and getting that first week's rent here quickly.
To hold a reservation, you're going to have to get the money to me.
Do you have a trustworthy person in Portland who could bring by payment and collect the receipt?
Money orders are fine by me, if your move-in date is more than a week away and it gets here within 3 days (some sort of Express Mail).

Wiring funds If you are in a hurry to grab a confirmed room. it's nearly as fast as dropping it by the house here. All I have to do, upon getting your e-mail that it's been sent, is dash up the street a mile or so, collect it, and dash home to e-mail you that it got here and your reservation is confirmed.
To wire a deposit:
*Go to Western Union office near you
*Tell them my full name (C Joden Peterston)
*Tell them where to send it (Portland, Oregon, USA)
Then e-mail me:
* Your full name
*The city, state and country you are wiring the money from
* The NTCP # (A tracking number system) of the wire
I just discovered a web site! Western Union will let you wire funds via the Internet or by phone.
Personal checks only work if your move-in date is at least a month in the future. (Snail mail time plus up to 2 weeks to clear my bank). Once your check clears, I will e-mail you that the reservation is confirmed.
