                                                   FITTING THE GEARBOX

updated new pictuers in red tex

Well this week unfortunately not a lot has gone on with the build of Jason's rail. What with Jason moving house and my work commitment's there wasent a lot of time.Jason decided to concentrate on helping me to get my BAJA in some sort of working order for the S.C.O.R.R. show stand at bugfreeze at Bingley Hall,Stafford 18 feb 2001
(see pic7) thank's Jason.
So saturday afternoon and all day sunday we went to our garage in a secret location some where in the outback of Leicestershire
(see pic 8) armd with tool's,welder, grinder's,big box of tea bags and not forgeting the mobile disco for the workshop! When we arrived on saturday Geoff (my brotheringlaw) was already there working on Diane's (girly racer) car. Sunday mornig Jason came round to pick me up supporting a BIG HANG OVER and two lovely blood shot eye's. He said "I shoulden't have had those last 5 pint's!" So off we went to the secret location to commence work.
We did do a little work on Jason's rail THE FITTING OF THE GEARBOX ! Jason wanted a solid mounted gearbox. As you can see
(see pic 9) two metal supports were welded in between the horns as a cradle for the box to sit on .A piece of metal 6 inches by 3 inches by 1/4 inch thick with two holes drilled in it was made to locate on to the stud's on the back of the camper box. The bottom stud was cut down to a 1/4 inch so when the nut was thightend up on the top stud the plate wouldent swing from side to side because we needed the bottom half of the plate to weld the locating mount to (see pic 10). The rubber was burnt off, And the locating mount was welded to the new plate that Jason had made ( see pic 10a). this will hopefully make a solid mount at tha rear of the box.You should be able to place the box on the cradle and slip the box back and the mount will locate to the bolt's under neath the back of the IRS torsion bar (see pic 11). Then there will be two straps, one front and one at the back to go over the gearbox and bolted down to the horns (see pic 11a).Now let's put the engine on and and have a look it's beginning to look like an offroad rail take a look at (pic12). When the frame's  built there will be two metal bars that come down from the frame and bolted to the top of the gearbox. PS If you understand that lot you'r a better man than i am because i don't and i  wrote it,and i helped him do it
