Lesson 7: Conflict Mediation Role Play

Students will reflect on disputes they may encounter in school thus providing an authentic context to apply conflict resolution.

Objective:
Students will present role plays identify the positive/negative traits of the participants and use conflict mediation techniques demonstrating peaceful resolution.

Materials:
Character Traits sheet

Procedure:
1. Working in collaborative groups of four, students will create five minute skits in which the participants role play a school-related situation they have witnesses or been involved with that ended with students fighting.
2. Students present the role play a second time, employing one of the conflict mediation techniques from the previous lesson and demonstrate how the situation can be resolved peacefully.
3. Using Character Traits sheet, students will identify traits of role play characters.
