As you can see, it took quite a few blades to cut off the 1" section of the leaf spring. After a little trial and error I found the best way to cut the spring is to first, clamp the leaf into a vise. Then put on a pair of rubber work gloves. Take the saws-all and let it cut with the weight of the saw only...do not push down on the blade...this will only shorten the life of the blade. While the blade is cutting, continue to keep it wet with motor oil. I found that a small puddle of oil forming under the blade could be constantly re-used to keep everything cool. One hand held the saw handle and the other one kept moving from the puddle of oil to the moving saw blade. This is the reason for the gloves. Otherwise you might burn your fingers or get metal shavings in them. Neither one being very pleasent. I was able to use reduce the blade use approximately in half using this technique. |
