Royal Coachman: This fly falls into the category of "attractor" flies, which means that it's not meant to specifically immitate one particular insect but is tied with several insects in mind. Attractor patterns are used to "attract" fish when not much else is working. The Royal Coachman is a great fly to use on still water or on rivers and could pass as a red ant, a wasp, bee, hornet, or even some types of mayflies. The royal coachman has always been a bread and butter pattern for me when I fish the Uinta mountains.
