My name is Mary Anna Mitchell, but I go by Anna. I started off riding in 1996 at Quantico Marine Corps Base Stable. I got introducted to hunter and dressage riding.
In 1999 I switched to Breezy Knoll Farm in Hartwood, Va. I continued my riding in hunter, but got exposed to other sports like western speed events, western pleasure, reining, and showmanship. They showed on the Appaloosa circuit, which I got to stick my feet in a little bit.
My first horse was actually a Thoroughbred named Platinum. He was an OTTB, who won 2 of his 55 starts. He was my boy. We showed successful at PWHA, and a few local jumper shows. We also did 1 dressage show. I sold him to a girl who continued to learn on him as I did. He sadly passed back in 2007.
I love all different kinds of horses. But Appaloosas have to be my all time favorite. I really love the english disciplines and I think at Breezy Knoll it started my dream of starting my own Appaloosa barn.
I don't believe the ApHC gives enough attention to the non-ApHC showing english horses. I believe the ApSHA and IPSHR, offer more attention to our Appies and Appy crossies that have the bigger movement enjoyed by the hunter and dressage communities.
In the future I would like to own my own farm and breed Appaloosas and Appaloosa crosses that are bred specifically for the hunter-jumper-dressage arenas. But more importantly good tempered horses that you'll enjoy as as your equine partners.
