Alex as a Christ-Figure
Alex Delarge could be called pure evil.  He experiences joy while inflicting pain on helpless, innocent people, and feels no remorse for his actions.  Most would say that this would make a character the very opposite of Christ.  However, according to Anton Karl Kozlovic's article, "The Structural Characteristics of a Cinemtaic Christ-Figure" many of the listed charactersitics can be applied to Alex.
1.  Alex is the central character - Christ figures are most often the central character of the movie.  Similarly, Jesus is the central character of the New Testament.  Alex can be seen as a redeemer Christ figure.  This type of figure usually undergoes suffering after emerging from an evil setting.  This can be applied to Alex, for he experieces much suffering after being released from the hospital.  He is betrayed by his parents and beaten up by his past victims.

2.
Alex undergoes a symbolic death and ressurection - Christ-figures are most often involved in suffering, death, and ressurection.  Although Alex does not actually die in the film, certain parts of his personality are killed.  By Alex volunteering for the treatment, he kills his ability to choose, thus killing his original identity.  Once released, he suffers greatly.  Also, Alex attempts suicide after being tortured by Mr. Alexander.  At the end of the film his ability to choose is restored, therefore making it seem as if his old identity has been ressurected after his "clockwork" self has died.

3.
Alex willingly sacrifices himself - Alex chooses to undergo the Ludovico technique.  Although he is not fully informed on the procedure and what the effects will be, he still volunteers himself and ends up sacrificing his individuality and his ability to choose.  Another example is when Alex attempts suicide.  Though not intentional, Alex exposes the evil of the State by sacrificing himself.  Christ-figures often choose to be sacrificed.

4.
Alex belongs to a working class family - Christ-figures are often associated with poverty, for Jesus was a poor man himself.  In the beginning of the film, Alex lives in a bad part of town in a small appartment with his parents.  The building is not well kept and is covered in vulgar grafiti.  Both of his parents work yet the family is far from wealthy.

5.
Alex lives a double life - During the day, Alex is a typical teenager.  He lives with his parents and attends a school, although he is frequently absent.  He tells his parents that he works during the evenings, explaining where he goes every night and gets his money.  In reality, he roams the streets with his friends doing drugs and commiting serious crimes.  Christ-figures often have alter egos.  Aside from being the Son of God, Jesus was also a carpenter.

6.
Alex has associates that betray him - Just as Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus, so do Alex's droogs.  Alex is set up by Dim, Pete, and Georgie to be caught by the police after breaking in to a house and brutally attacking a woman.  Jesus was also turned in to the authorities by Judas.  Associates can also be used to glorify the Christ-figure.  This can be applied to Alex's friends, for before the betrayal they listened to him and followed his orders.  Alex was the leader of his gang, making him seem superior to the other three.

7.
The Prison Chaplain is a John the Baptist-figure - Usually in films that contain Christ-figures, there are also John the Baptist-figures.  Before Alex volunteers himself for the Ludovico technique, the prison chaplain tries to warn him about the treatment's effects.  Once Alex undergoes the treatment and is released, we never hear of the chaplain again.  John the Baptist-figures often warn the Christ-figure of what is to come, then fade away.

8.
Alex dresses in white - During the first third of the film, Alex and his droogs dress in white.  All four wear white shirts, white pants, and white suspenders.  They all dress alike in a gang fashion, with white being their colour of choice.  Many Christ-figures dress in white comparable to the popular image of Jesus in his white robe.

9.
Alex has blue eyes - The very first scene of A Clockwork Orange shows Alex staring into the camera.  It is hard not to notice his piercing blue eyes.  Christ-figures are usually portrayed with blue eyes.  Blue is a symbolic colour, symbolizing truth, purity, and the divine.

Although Alex is not a typical Christ-figure, many structural characteristics can be applied to his character.

Alex returns home to discover that his parents have replaced him with a "new son"
