The Book of Love has been conceived of and compiled by Jim Lade, a resident of Toronto, Canada. This project has been the culmination of a life long interest in the pursuit of wisdom. I do not profess to have the answers to life's questions but some of the writers quoted here knew more about love and life than most of us ever will. I enjoy their words, thoughts and ideas and find comfort and pleasure in contemplating them. I hope you do also. This is an ongoing quest and I welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.
This web site was launched in May, 1999. I hope to continually add to it and see it grow in size and quality. If you have ideas for additions to this site please let me know!

I don't know if I believe in love at first sight, but it sure would save a lot of time.

    What do we value?

It is a question of, what do we
value?

We value old buildings and we preserve them for history.
We value animals and we have the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
We value forests and nature and we have national parks.

What if we valued
Human Beings?

Why don't we have a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Human Beings?
Why don't we see that
every person has sufficient food, shelter and the necessities of life without judging them as undeserving, inadequate, stupid or lazy?
         ...choose love...

We peer so suspiciously at each other that we cannot see that we Canadians are standing on a mountaintop of human wealth, freedom and privilege
