After World War 1 Germany was in the worst economic condition
of any country in Europe. The Treaty of Versailles made Germany give up all
colonies and some territory to France and Poland. Germany also had to give up resources such as coal, trains,
merchant ships, submit to allied occupation of the Rhineland for 15 years and limit its army
and their navy. The German people where
humiliated and with the world wide economic depression of 1929 many German
people turned toward Communism or Nazism.
All of these factors put together plus Hitler’s blaming of the Jews and promise of a glorious German nation
guaranteed that he would come to power.
