·         Nazism – The ideology and practice of the Nazis, especially the policy of racist nationalism, national expansion, and state control of the economy.

·         Communism – A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.

·         Treaty of Versailles – Peace treaty signed at the end of World War I between Germany and the Allies.

·         Monitor Troops – [Ordnertruppen] group of battle veterans comprised of to take care of hecklers at meetings. Eventually became the Storm troopers.

·         World War 1 – A War fought from 1914-1918, in which Great Britain, France, Russia, Belgium, Italy, Japan, and the United States defeated Germany, Austria-Hungry, Turkey, and Bulgaria.

·         SocialismA social system in which the means of producing and distributing goods are owned collectively and political power is exercised by the whole community.

·         PacifismOpposition to war or violence as a means of resolving disputes.

·         German Workers Party (DAP) – political party in Germany that shared many beliefs as Hitle, later referred to as National Socialist German Workers Party.

·         Herman Goering – Nazi general, commander of the German Air Force.

·         Rudolf HessGerman Nazi functionary, one of Adolf Hitler's principal lieutenants in the 1920s and '30s.

·         Ernst RöhmGerman Nazi leader who commanded the Sturmabteilung (SA, or storm troopers).

·         Fuehrer – German word for leader.

·         ReparationsCompensation, especially that required from a defeated nation as indemnity for war damages.

·         Mein Kampf – Book dictated by Hitler outlying his beliefs on racial inferiority and his plans for world domination.

·         Reichstag – German Parliament.

·         National Socialist German Workers Party – Hitler’s political party, later referred to as Nazis.

·         Nazis – Political party in Germany lead by Adolf Hiter that practiced Nazism, also responsible for World War 2 and the Holocaust.

·         Jews – Members of the people descended from the ancient Hebrews and marked by adherence to Judaism.

·         Weimar Republic German republic that lasted from 1919 until 1933.

·         World War 2 – War fought from 1939-1945 between the Allies and the Axis powers.

·         Allies – Major Allies: United States, Britain, France, Russia.

·         Rhineland – A region along the Rhine River in western Germany. It includes noted vineyards and highly industrial sections north of Bonn and Cologne.

·         Munich Beer Hall Putsch – Failed attempt by Hitler to overthrow the government by force.
