4. JOHN JAMES DAVIS born Dec 22, 1862 - Mason Co. IL - died Sep 12, 1950 - San Jose, Mason Co. IL - married MARY MITCHELL

John B. Davis' War Records states he was a Private of Captain William M. Duffy's Co H of the 108th Regiment of IllinoisVolunteers, of the State of Illinois. He mustered into the service at Peoria IL on the 28th day of Aug 1862. He died on board steamboat City of Alten at Ark. Post January 13, 1863 of Typhoid Fever.

John entered the War a few months before his son John James was born and died less than a month after he was born. He never seen his son.

According to Hannah's Pension papers after John's death she married David S. Whistler in Pekin, Tazewll Co. on Sep 30, 1866. He died in 1889 in Iowa. They are listed in the 1870 San Jose, Mason Co census. In 1880 she is living alone. David is not listed with her. There are two children, Minnie and Chas which may be her's and David Whistlers. Hannah is found in the 1900 and 1910 census but not found in the 1920. She is buried at the Green Hill Cemetery - San Jose (which is a part of Logan Co) - there are no dates on her tombstone. Still trying to find out when she died.

Mary was born Oct 14, 1870 in Lucasville, Ohio and died Dec 22, 1950 at her daughter's home in Springfield, IL - parents were Matthew and Sophia F. Murphy Mitchell.

John had a son , Roy Davis, from his 1st marriage.

John and his family are listed in the book "HISTORY OF MASON COUNTY ILLINOIS 1818 TO 1968" They are also found in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 San Jose, Mason Co. census.

John and Mary are buried in the Green Hill Cemetery, Prairie Creek Twp, Logan Co. IL.
