One of the first 100 production models F111A, just out of "Fleet Recovery" shop at GD remote stie, Waco Tx - in test flight over central Texas, wings swept for cruise speed. If we were lucky, owning unit would send one of their hot shot blow pipe jockeys as ferry pilot and we would get a good fly-by, wings swept, vapor trails streaming from wing tips, just under Mach 1 - real thrill!!!! That was no Bs either, as Sec McNamara & his Pentagon Whiz kids said, come on you USAF Field Quality Engineer types, join our Project 60, soon to be DCAS, guarantee ye a job for life - all ye gotta do is go where the work is - and they meant it - I had eleven PCS moves in last nine years as DCAS Field Quality plus two years at CAS Hq in the Pentagon.. 1963-1976 |
