Jim Scully has been an
active participant in the Bakersfield music scene for more than a
decade as a guitarist, composer
and educator. He holds an MFA in Music with an emphasis in jazz
composition from the University of
California, Irvine (UCI) and a BA in Music from California State University, Bakersfield
(CSUB), where he is now a full-time lecturer. His primary
academic responsibilities at CSUB include teaching and developing courses in jazz
studies, music theory and music technology. Additionally, he
serves as director of the student jazz combos, producer-director of the
popular CSUB Jazz
Coffeehouse concerts, assistant producer-director of the Legends of
Jazz Series and director of the CSUB Computer MusicLab, a
state-of-the-art 10-station audio/MIDI lab.
