QUESTION...
Want to see images of the stars before some "expert" tells you what they mean?
Every night, including last night, since the summer of 1996 wide angle- raw images of the night sky have been published on the web.
Next imagine that the mechanical complexities of a telescope were replaced with software. The telescope would have only one moving part, the camera shutter. Its been done. This page is one of many pages grown out of these ideas. Interested? Visit Stardial.
A. STARDIAL TABLES.
1 Table of
AAVSO
variable stars used in Stardial.
2. Same with
GCVS numbers, names & ep.2000 positions used in Stardial.
3. Table of
abbreviations
used in the AAVSO & GCVS tables above & a
longer version.
4. Table of AAVSO
charts used in Stardial.
5. Table of special variable stars used in Stardial.
6. Table of four AAVSO
easy ones used in Stardial.
7. Table of ASAS
periodic variables used in Stardial.
8. Table of ASAS
miscellaneous variables used in Stardial.
9. Table of
standard Landolt 1992 stars used in Stardial.
10. Table of constellation name & abbreviation
conventions.
B. STARDIAL MYSTERIES.
1. Why does Stardial's band of view change ever so slightly with time?
2. Do you know of the spectacular TELEPHOTO LENS camera mounted on a robotic telescope at the Las Campanas Observatory? The observatory is high in the mountains of the southern Chilean Atacama desert at an altitude of 2300m & is arguably one of the best- clearest- astronomical sights in the world! The
little telescope is completely autonomous! It's remotely operated via the net from Warsaw Poland.
They have published, on the net, a catalog of 50 MILLION! CCD measurements of 140,000 variables with modern graphic tools like an extensive gallery of light curves, interactive spectra, all 50 million data pairs etc.
With a little help from his friends Dr. Grzegorz Pojmanski accomplished all this, all of it mind you, in just three years.
Have a look & browse around the ASAS!
3. How many
types of AAVSO variable stars are there?
4. ...?
