Lorenzo Domínguez

Lorenzo Domínguez was originally from Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon. He was baptised on 2 August, 1817. His parents were Manuel Domínguez and Ma. Feliciana Rodríguez, this Domínguez line going back to the late 1600's and early 1700's in Sabinas Hidalgo.

Lorenzo married Ana Maria Ramos on the 14th of May, 1835 in the Iglesia San José in Sabinas Hidalgo. We have identified many of their children, including several who died as infant children. In the Jiménez registers, only two sons appear, Manuel Domínguez and Dimas Domínguez. These two also having been born in Nuevo Leon.

Manuel is known to have been married to Maria Ignacia Castro, daughter of José Castro and Magdalena Jiménez. They had Encarnación "Chon" Domínguez, José Domínguez, and Sisto Domínguez.

According to the Jiménez archives, as well as information obtained from Saúl Domínguez, a grandson of "Chon" Domínguez, Dimas Domínguez (1) had a son named Luis, who had a son and named him after his dad, Dimas (2). Either the elder Dimas or the younger Dimas, in 1906 would be the leader of an underground movement by the PLM Party, followers of Ricardo Flores Magon to overthrow the Dictatorship government of Porfirio Diaz.

Crescencio Villarreal Márquez, a newspaper publisher and party member from Del Rio, Texas worked with Dimas Domínguez in smuggling arms and munitions for the planned rebellion. That event took place in Jiménez September 26, 1906. It was led by Juan José Arredondo.

Although the rebellion was put down by federal troops the next day, the fuse had been lit, eventually armed rebellion would spark up throughout the nation that eventually would lead to the Mexican Revolution of 1910.
