| Communicating Development
Currently, Jim works as a full time consultant for an Asian Development Bank-funded and FAO administered project based in Bangkok, Thailand. As consultant on communications, he has contributed to the coordination of highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu) communication activities for the FAO Regional Office. The ADB-funded project also deals with other animal diseases in the Greater Mekong Subregion. He has been coordinating communication activities against transboundary animal diseases like foot and mouth disease and classical swine fever in Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam including Malaysia and Myanmar.
He previously worked in the Philippines as a community awareness specialist for a foreign assisted project based at the Bureau of Animal Industry where he has contributed to the evaluation of various communication strategies and information materials during his assignment. Prior to this appointment, he communications officer/specialist for the same foreign assisted project. He has compiled, edited and manged the production of the country's first collection of FMD research/scholarly articles, where he co-authored one article on communication management.
He began his career as a university research associate for his Alma Mater after finishing his bachelors degree. He was mentored then by one of the Philippine's leading journalism scholars--Dr. Crispin C. Maslog. He later joined the Philippine Daily Inquirer as a news correspondent, writing various articles on crime, politics, sports, special features among others. |

Mr. Caro speaking to participants of a USAID-FAO initiated communications planning workshop on highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in Bangkok. Among the participants of the workshop include staff from the ministries of agriculture, information, education and health of Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam.
