Spring Semester 2004
Tuesday Night: A night in Margaret Nance with AR and friends. I got to satiate my vanity by having Kat draw my face and me lying around in different positions. Neck ache, anyone? Art looks like an effeminate black male, in the drawings. Departure time: 3 AM.
Thursday: First day of snow. Massive snowball fights all over Peabody. I missed the tackle goaltimate Frisbee, but I did meet up with Mere, Jen, Ponds, Mike, and Nick. AR showed up a little later, after driving back from Spartanburg in the snow. We went out to the lake to the spot we played at last year. The snow was a little too deep for the belly slides. But I did get to make some diving attempts at the Frisbee. And I got to run a few hurdles in the snow. Nick eventually broke the desk out there in the field so they could use the legs as arms for their snowman. After some massive thawing out, I met up with the Frisbee team at 8:30 for capture the flag. That was fun. Running around in a foot of snow, with sleet pelting you and stinging your face because of the 20 MPH winds, yeah, it was great. So this is how we won it: Mani snuck behind and stole the flag, and started running down the road that runs in front of Nance and Bancroft and Tillman. Nick meets him, and they trade snowballs. I see this and try to run and save Mani as fast as I can. In the end, Mani got Nick, but Erik picked off Mani, and I got Erik. So, Mani hands off the flag to Matt, and I run bodyguard. The Maryland boys are running the flag back down the road. Suddenly, Charles comes out of nowhere and starts running after Matt, since he had the flag. I picked him off easily. The same went for Erik, bodyguard took him out. After the game, we took refuge in Bancroft. Then we decided to play inside of Bancroft, but only on the 2nd and 3rd floors because we figured it would be harder for Campus Police to catch us that way. There were 10 of us left, out of the original 24 or so. So, we set it up and start playing, until someone decided that people live in Bancroft and that we should probably not push our luck. Then, we heard voices on the first floor. We booked it to the annex and the back stairwell and out the basement door. Another close encounter. But it's not like they couldn't have found us, because there were tracks leading out of the door in the snow.
Friday: Tackle Goaltimate Frisbee. Two lacrosse goals, same turnover rules as ultimate, but with the twist that as soon as you catch the Frisbee, you are fair game, with three steps to get away from a tackler. This game was the Walter and Jared show. I had a real nice goal while I shot during a dive. Walter had some great hammer goals. And Walter had assists on most of my goals. My favorite was the alley-oop where I jumped to catch the Frisbee and chest-passed it into the goal as I came down. That was a great game. So much fun to try to tackle people with the Frisbee. It was just like old times. Later, Ponds, AR, Mike and I went to the Nance to chill with Mere and Jen. AR beat Mike in chess, and then I stalled the game long enough for Mike to just give up, so I won. I probably would have won anyways, but Mike just helped it along. Anyways, a modification of AR's quote: "Yeah, we went over to the Nance, spooned a little, and got some kisses." Out of context, yes. Funny, definitely.
Saturday: Went to the UNCA game. We won. It was sweet. Ty Walker hit a 90 footer at the buzzer before halftime. He was under the basket, the ball almost hit the scoreboard, and it banked right it. It was the most awsome shot ever. Then went over to the apartment for a bit. Watched a little Total Recall. Aaron Fowler: "Let's see if we can figure out which is the fake boob."  I left around 10:15, went to Wal-Mart, and then went to bed. I didn't sleep much, though, too excited about the Frisbee tournament.
Sunday:  I awoke at 4:30, took a shower, shaved, and went over to Dinkins to meet up with the team. We were supposed to leave at 5:30, but Matt and Larry weren't there. So, I called their apartment and yelled at them to hurry. We left around 5:45. On the way there, Matt, being in the last car, ran about 4 orange lights and one red light. And he hit about 95 after being fed up with Charlie going too slow. But then his poor little hybrid didn't have any gas left and he had to stop and catch back up with the rest of us. Oh, and you people don't know fun until you've spent 3 hours in a car with Dave and Brittany. So, we get there on time, after making the "Ultimate Right" twice, and play begins. We got stomped. The first game, against SPSU, we scored 3, I got one, and Larry made one of the most spectacular diving catches I've seen. We lost 11-3. During one of their time outs, while the on field players were talking, the other players on the SPSU team ran interference by singing songs, horribly out of tune, I might add, but still hilarious. Second game against Georgia State, we scored first on a long pass to me, and then we gave up 11 straight and lost. The third game, against the GT B team, after they had played a marathon match against SPSU, they beat us 11-5, after it being 6-5 at halftime. Fourth game, the first in the tournament, against Emory, the number one seed from the other pool, they beat us 11-3. By this point, half the team was pretty much done, and didn't feel like playing anymore. More playing time for me. I did have a really nice catch for the third point on a hammer where I out jumped the defender in the end zone. Our fifth, and final game, was against GCSU. Now this game was fun, these guys were on our level, and they were not at all serious about the competition. Of course, it helped that they were inebriated. I mean, these guys would sub out and kick back another bottle. I scored five points in this game. On one pull, Charlie picked it up and just threw it the length of the field to me. I mean, I just started running on the throw off and didn't stop until I caught it in the end zone. It was at this point the other team decided to cover the kid in the blue shorts. Which they did semi-effectively, I still got open, but not as much. I did have a sort of assist in the fact that on a long throw that I knew was over my head, I stopped an jumped for it anyway, because I knew the guy covering me would stop and jump for it too, so the disc sailed over both of us, right into Larry's awaiting hands in the end zone for the score. They still beat us, 13-11, and we have to live with the fact we lost to drunk guys, but it was fun all the same. Our sixth opponent forfeited, so we finished 7th out of 8. After the tournament, we went to Charlie's house for some home cooked food. Big props go out to Charlie's mom for cooking us pasta and making us some really delicious brownies. The food was off the hook. The drive back was relatively uneventful. So, I drove for about 7 hours and played Frisbee for about 8 hours straight, and I ended up being awake for about 20 hours. A good day, if I might say.
