GUNS!

Since I am no good with reviews but am prone to obsessions,
this new but not-so-improved music page is here to show
my likes and dislikes.

7/20/06 CURRENTLY OBSESSING OVER: THE DRAFT

I was devastated when I heard that Hot Water Music was no more, I mean who wouldn't be? (I mean, did you see my tattoo?)(Yes, I have a Hot Water Music tattoo. It's hot and I like it.) To compound things, I had only seen them perform once, long ago, before I could even appreciate them... A band that died far too young.

But, to my squealing delight, a new band was birthed and they called it "The Draft". It contains a trio from HWM plus a newcomer, and they maintain the creative melodic effect that made HWM so appealing to me - but still remains it's own entity.

I was in heaven, light headed and euphoric when I heard that The Draft was playing in Portland, with Alkaline Trio no less. I bought my ticket months in advance, as I tend to do when properly motivated, and May 31st rolled around a beautiful day.

Ticket said doors open @ 7.

The Draft, I mean The FREAKING Draft, went on stage first, apparently at 7.

If you didn't get it by now, I missed them. I only stayed for about half of Alkaline Trio, I was seriously that depressed. All that buildup, just to see them carting away amps stamped with HWM...

But the sun still shines, and The Draft marches on, continuing to tour. They are actually coming back to Portland in September just in time for their first anniversary and their first album to be released. I promise I'll try not to maul them.

CURRENTLY OBSESSING OVER: ALKALINE TRIO

For some reason this band has always been a familiar name. I was really excited to see them when I saw NOFX play at the Roseland, but of course I missed their entire set because of an accident on I-5. I was determined to hear them so I bought the Hot Water Music/Alkaline Trio Split CD. I knew I couldn't hate the CD even if I didn't like them since HWM is already a winner... Turns out I loved the CD and had to buy more. I finally got to see them live at the warped tour (7/2004) - after, of course, being mauled in the moshpit of various other bands. So yeah, they rock and you should definitely check them out.
