GOTHICA

~November 29, 2003~ Lack of home computer has rendered my movie reviewing days useless, but I've recently acquired a job at a local theater so I get free movies! My first free movie, Gothica, was the only one that even remotely looks interesting at the moment. Most other reviews I've read on it really do sum it up - "cheap thrills". Lots of twists, but predictable ones. The best thing that I can say is that it did peak my interest in psychology and the twisted human mind... A psychologist working in a prison psychiatric ward has a paranormal experience and wakes up as a patient in her own ward.

PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN

~July 20, 2003~

ARRRRRG!

DAREDEVIL

~February 14, 2003~ Another day, another comic made into a movie. Ben Affleck played Mathew Murdoc, AKA Daredevil. Ben's a great actor and all, but I don't think he was ready for a geek movie - correction - an action geek movie. He was in Chasing Amy and other such movies, but lets face it, he's a sellout. Doesn't mean he's not good, just means he can't connect with the geek crowd any longer. To add to it, it's Valentine's Day with a semi-love story movie and I am anti love story at the moment. arrrg. Other than that it was good with some unique fighting sequences (I was a bit upset about Daredevil and Electra defying gravity at points - they don't have any superhuman qualities, so why defy gravity dammit??) but some very cheesy moments.

LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS

~January 21, 2003~ So, after 4 months of no new movie reviews, and after seeing The Two Towers three times, I realized it was time to write something up. Keep in mind, I'm not much of a writer of reviews... more of a writer of random thoughts. Anyways... I've never read the books, but as I stated in my review of the first of the trilogy - these movies embodied every image in my head from D&D quests. I managed to go to the opening night showing (I got to wait around at my house with my roomate in the warmth till about an hour before while someone else held our spot - its good to know people in high places!) and it was the longest 3 hours I've spent in a theater since "In The Bedroom". Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every minute of it, but those chairs just aren't meant for that. For this movie I was able to focus on more than just the wonderful Legolas, and was in complete awe in the work put into Gollum. It was absolutely amazing. I was also extatic that it had more fighting and action, and less lovey dovey stuff. As with every movie, small parts that are left out can make a difference... I had no idea what Frodo meant when he threatened Gollum with "Sting", but reading The Hobbit, things like that began to make sense. Read the book!! It fills in the gaps.

1 HOUR PHOTO

~September 16, 2002~ Ech. First thing I said out of this movie was Ech. If I had seen it for free I wouldn't complain, but $7 for an Ech? Arrrg. There had been so much hype about this movie, seeings as I work in a 1 hour photo. So much hype that all our policies had to be changed to protect the public and blah blah blah... for this? I mean, don't get me wrong, Robin Williams played an awesome creepy guy, and the rest of the small cast did great in their roles too, but... He didn't kill anyone. Didn't even try. Just scared people, creeped them out. Man, I was so looking forward to some gore...

SIGNS

~August 18, 2002~ How sweet it is to finally see a good movie. Crap, I don't even know how to write any sort of review for a good movie... Well, I went to see Signs the other night with Paris. This was probably the first movie that has actually scared me in ages. I LOVE scary movies, but everything is so... stupid... like Jeepers Creepers. God that was bad. Anyway, I thought it was a well cast movie with Mel Gibson as the father and widow, an ex-reverend who has lost his faith after the death of his wife. I really dislike religion being a huge role in movies, but somehow it didn't get in the way of this one. Signs left me thinking that large green men were going to kidnapp me all night and I would definitly see it again given the chance. If I had any sort of rating system, Sings would get an A+ or 10 or something.

SPIDERMAN

~May 15, 2002~ So I figure while I'm here doing maintenance on my site I aught to do a short review on the new Spiderman movie. Well... what can I say? I liked it alot. I don't know if I would still hold the same opinion if I were an avid Spidy comic book reader, but from the hardcores that I've talked to, it was still good despite the fact that it really didn't follow the comic's plot. I loved the graphics in it, and who could resist a well-endowed man in tights? Speaking of men in tights, my friend and roomate Randal ran around the theater opening night in a Spiderman costume signing comic books and the likes. Heheh, like I said, who could resist a well-endowed man in tights??

JEEPERS CREEPERS

~February 8, 2002~ What is with all these crappy movies? I have learned a valuable lesson these past few weeks... DON'T LET SIMON PICK THE MOVIE. It was an agonizing lesson, too. But I guess I should be honest - I would've rented this eventually. I was hearing so many good reviews by people whom I thought had good taste... Every one of them said "ooh, it was so scary, I couldn't sleep!" and what not. Then I go and watch it and I laugh. Literally, everyone laughed. Especially when the Ms.Cleo sounding lady mysteriously identified the main guy's gay rose tattoo on his belly. Oh god that was funny. What kind of guy has a rose tattoo? And on his belly?!? Ack. I'm not even going to finish this review, its not worth it. At least with "In The Bedroom" I had the motivation to gripe...

IN THE BEDROOM

~January 23, 2002~ If for any reason whatsoever you decide to see this movie, save yourself the $5 and shoot yourself instead. Yes, this movie was that aweful. I can't believe a movie this bad made it past a script... The whole time, Simon and I were waiting... waiting and waiting for the plot to make sense, or more like, for the plot to present itself. THERE WAS NO PLOT. Just lots of pointless scenes of people sitting around... I've heard reviews saying how wonderfully Sissy Spacek played the distraught mother, but all she did was watch T.V. and have a sad look on her face. There was no climax, no pretty people, nothing whatsoever to keep us in the theatre, besides the fact that there was nothing better to do. We were just so damn sure that there would at least be a good ending, after all the suffering we had done for the first 2 hours... but no, it just ended. Like I said, spare yourself the pain and shoot yourself. Better yet, shoot the producer.

BLACK HAWK DOWN

~January 19, 2002~ So last night I went to see "Black Hawk Down" with Simon. I'm not a war movie fan... in fact, the actual thought of a war movie is quite repulsive, to say it nicely. But for some odd, twisted reason, I stayed awake through the whole 2 1/2 hours, and almost enjoyed myself. It was mainly just 2 hours of shooting and helicopters crashing, which is entertaining to an extent. I was extatic to go home, but have fond memories of young, bloody soldiers that may have been hot, had they any hair. Whats more is that it was "based on actual events", which really makes you think. -About politics, and how much they suck, about how America seems to always butt into other countries business... We are like, the nosy big sister of the world. You can't hide anything from us, and we will always try to fix things, even if it means total anihilation. *I can't spell*. Hehe, I love to gripe...

LORD OF THE RINGS

On a completely different movie note, I saw Lord Of The Rings a few weeks ago with Tammy and Laura. After seeing this movie, I had a sudden urge to play D&D... Don't ask... I've never read the book that preceeded this movie, but everything, every special effect, every elf, dwarf, corrupt human, monster... It was all exactly how I pictured things when playing D&D (back in the day...). Needless to say, Tammy and I became obsessed with the insanely hot elf guy, Legolas, played by Orlando Bloom. You can't deny that this guy is hot.
So in conclusion, this movie far exceeded my expectations, as well as everyone else's that I've talked to. The web site is awesome as well, with beautiful, fast loading images, tons of information on the movie and characters, as well as the actors, and even some movie trailors. Okay, I'm addicted...
