South Sudan: Forgotten Tragedy
By Peter Lam Both
This region of the Sudan is a forgotten tragedy. The International community ranging
from the United Nations to the organization of African Unity (Africa Union) has neglected it.
Southern Sudanese have gone through a terrible apartheid system rivaled only by Apartheid
South Africa in this Century. But the world has not been deafened by the outcry of the
Southerners. This is what the book responsibly addresses.
This book examines the North-South relations in a southern perspective. It addresses the
fundamental and immediate causes of the civil war, the role of the military in Sudan politics,
the Southern Sudanese liberation movements and the confusionism beginning with Anya Anya I; and
goes down in the corridors of history to the present time. The Ethnicitization of power
and politics and the illusionary peace deals have been analyzed. The book addresses the
role of the Western oil companies in fostering and financing the war in Sudan. The principles
of self-determination and State-Secularism and the feasibility of each have been discussed.
More importantly, suggestions to the international community and the Sudanese people on how
to resolve the Sudan civil war have been analyzed. Reading this book will increase your
understanding of what the grassroots are saying about the war.
