 The Maitland Mercury - 15 June 1895

WOODVILLE, -On Thursday evening a surprise party took place at the residence of Mrs. Wynn, who is about to leave Woodville. About eighty of Mrs. Wynn's friends assembled in the C. E. School-room and held a short meeting, when it was decided to present Mrs. Wynn with a handsome plush dressing case. The presentation was made during the evening by Mr. D. Ferry. Mrs. Wynn, who was visibly affected, thanked her kind friends for the unexpected and beautiful present. Mr. Percy Wynn, on behalf of his mother, also thanked the friends; and Mr. B. Long (son-in-law of Mrs. Wynn) said a few word in reference to the presentation. After this Mr. Ferry advised the young folk to take charge of the house, which they did in down-right earnest --two rooms being quickly cleared for dancing. During the evening songs were rendered by the Misses Newton and Keating, and Messrs. Wade, Ross, Butler, Robinson, McRae, and a few others. Various parlour games were also played, chief amongst which was, I think, "spooning." At twelve o'clock a splendid supper was laid, which had been kindly provided by the lady friends, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. At about half past one all started for home, having spend a very pleasant evening.
