Unicycles
Riding a unicycle is nothing more than basic physics.
You only need to teach your body the very rudiments of Newton's laws. It
gets hard-wired into the synapses of your brain. Repeat after me...
Here is a picture of Jack with his stable of unicycles
in front of his friend's 1962 Ford Unibody pickup -- "Bob". Crikey, she's
a beauty! He's been trying to get a bunch of the neighborhood kids to learn
how to ride.
This is Jack on his "mini". It is the most difficult
of the bunch to ride. Probably because the center of mass is so low and
one has to pedal like the dickens to keep it going.
Now this one is a lot easier to ride
because the center of mass is way above the wheel. It is analogous to balancing
a broom by the handle -- get the weight far above your hand. It's really
just an angular momentum issue... large moment of inertia means slow to
tip over... blah, blah, blah. Well, it's
also a psychology issue because most people are initially a little scared
to sit up that high, and they freak out, and think too hard, and their
brains lose autopilot.
After those two, in-between gets a little boring. So
here's Jack riding one-footed down the middle of a busy street.
To concerned Parents and Guardians: Lest you
think that Jack is being an incredibly poor role model by not wearing protection,
please note the donning of the magic hat. Rest assured that all necessary
incantations have been properly recited... "protecto cephaloso".
He is definitely good to go.
