Woolworth Building   233 Broadway (1910-13)

A romantic tower, resembling a large wedding cake. Built with nickels and dimes, it was once the world's tallest building.  It is a neo-Gothic masterpiece, built by Cass Gilbert, and is clad in terra-cotta. The lobby is one of the most magnificent of the 20th century, with a stained-glass skylight, marble walls, bronze furnishings, and murals entitled Labor and Commerce.
