In the midst of this urban metropolis, there are more than 7,000 acres of forests, meadows and wetlands. You don't have to leave the city to discover nature-lakes, ponds, and streams dot the landscape. Catch the warbler migration in Central Park.  Learn about freshwater marshes in Van Cortland Park. See the wooded Ravine in Prospect Park. Catch a ferry to Staten Island and hike through centurys-old forests in the Greenbelt. Visit the wetlands and saltwater marshes of Alley Pond Park.
