Lauryn
Hill :
Lauryn recently reemerged after almost two years public absence.
In a recent MTV interview Lauryn was quoted saying, I
met somebody. That person had an understanding of the Bible
like no one else I ever met in my life. I just sat at their
feet and ingested pure Scripture for about a year. I started
to see I was my worst enemy. I was the problem, my own self-image,
who I thought I should be, as opposed to who I really was.
Lauryn's appearance on MTVs unplugged, a precursor to
the interview, is the first performance Lauryn has given since
her return. During Lauryns Unplugged performance she
stated, You guys never met me before and if you can't
accept all of me, do you want me to bring two-thirds of me
to the table? alluding to her newly inspired faith in
God and her transformed existence.
The new material
Lauryn debuted during the Unplugged episode, broadcast May
3, 2002 on MTV, was a candid revelation into her spiritual
journey. Playing only a guitar, with no backup band, Lauryn
soulfully sang to the audience with stark honesty. Interwoven
into each song was a message pleading with the audience to
acknowledge God and to not fall victim to the deceptions of
the world. Lauryns focus was introducing the real
me to her audience. She later commented during the MTV
interview, After God caused me to reintroduce myself
to my family members there were a lot of rocky moments, but
I knew it was all for the best. I knew it was because I had
been a repressed person for so long. Eventually, He showed
me there are millions of people who are holding their breath
waiting for this fantasy to return
It took a lot of
time for me to work through. Although critics have accused
her of being emotionally unstable, Lauryn has found stability
through faith. I went from an emotionally placating
environment to Toughen up, Lauryn, confront those fears.
With her new
spiritually charged message, Lauryn Hill has reentered the
music scene. Lauryn credits God for her metamorphose, proclaiming,
I trust every part of you
Oh you inspire me, to
be the higher me
in her song titled I Gotta Find
Peace of Mind. With astounding reverence, Lauryn boldly expresses
her faith to the main stream world. With little ambiguity,
she professes her salvation and the unconditional love that
has delivered her from the body of this dead.
