JEST is proud to present A Thousand Clowns JEST is announcing our third production for the 2008-2009 season. We are proud to present Herb Gardner's delightful comedy, A Thousand Clowns, directed by Arthur J. Fischer. The time: the early 1960's. Children watch commercially sponsored television programs featuring cowboys, clowns and grown men in animal suits. Most men, wearing thin ties and nearly brimless fedoras, are expected to join the rat race early and stay in it until retirement. Enter Murray Burns, a fun-loving, charming and exasperatingly irresponsible nonconformist. The only devotion in his life, aside from pastrami sandwiches, is his old-before-his-time nephew Nick. But now, the Child Welfare Board is threatening to take Nick away, unless Murray agrees to grow up. "Anything can happen above an abandoned Chinese restaurant . . . " "Sunny and wistful, sensible and demented . . . unfailingly amusing" - Howard Taubman, New York Times "Filled with laughter and warmth and sweetness and inspired daffiness." - John Chapman, New York Daily News Performance dates: All performances will be at the Hirsch Theatre, Beit Shmuel, 6 Eliahu Shama St., Jerusalem.
