Community
The two images above describe my work within the community. I volunteer at local homeless shelters, and usually take care of the children while their parents attend "life-skill" classes. Like I have said before, I love working with children. There is no greater thing than seeing a smile on a childs face because they have just learned something new or felt good about something they have just done. I cannot wait to teach, and this gives me great practice for my future . Working with these children is not something I do for entertainment , I do it because they need a positive role model in their lives, and I want to somehow make a difference. A lot of the children look to us volunteers as mentors and friends, and it really helps them get through the time they have to spend at the shelters until they can find a home of their own.
I consider working at Red Robin a part of my community category because everyone that lives in Fairfax comes into Red Robin at one point or another. Through Red Robin I have met thousands of people of all different backgrounds, ages, and ethnicities. I have met a millionaire that leave $200 tips, and I have met the rude people that leave the servers nothing. We host parties, weddings, and business meetings. We provide great service to anyone and everyone that comes through the door - so if that is not working with the community, I dont know what is.
WOODBRIDGE!!! LOVE IT! When I drive through Woodbridge I am the happiest person in the world. I grew up there, went through all my schooling there, and plan on moving back when I graduate. My boyfriend is an army brat and is amazed that you can drive down ONE road and pass both my elementary and middle school. His family is spread all throughout the country; it seems to be really cool to him that my family is all right here in the area. Woodbridge is where all my roots are, all of my memories, and I just can't say enough great things about it. Yes, it may be a little ghetto, a little congested, and little old, but hey, its home.
