My Major

 MECHANICAL
ENGINEERING

For the past year and a half I have been studying Mechanical Engineering at at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and I have found that this is definitely what I want to do in life.  At first I was kind of undecided about my major but now that I have been through some of the design classes I know how interesting this major is and I am so glad that this is what I'm doing.  In my design classes I have mastered the Solid Works program which is very important in the Mechanical Engineering world.  Mechanical Engineering is based on designing parts used in plants and oil rigs.  The program Solid Works is used for this.  You can design valves, assembly drawings, almost anything that you can imagine. The parts on the right hand side of the screen are just a few of the parts that at this level that I am able to design.  All of these parts begin as outlines and then we fill them in and make them look solid like the ones at the top of the the parts.  The bottom picture is a good example of what a preliminary drawing looks like. Every part to an automobile or bike or anything starts off like a drawing to the right and is then transformed into a real metal part.
As a Mechanical Engineer, it will be my job to produce drawings that companies will then transform into a product.

These are some types of parts that we design in our Mechanical Engineering design classes
