Katrina
That evening, we watched the storm on our satellite TV . And at first we saw what we expected. A few showers. But mostly clear skys on the southern and weaker side of the storm. However, that did not last long. We noticed that instead of further weakening of an already weak tropical strom and turning north as had been projected. Katrina stregnthend unusually rapidly and turned south.
Our satellite TV lost its signal and I turned on the VHF. I heard the NOAA statement "Condiditons in Key Largo will seriously detriate over the next half hour."
My son's and I road Hadar to the rocks onto whcih her 50,000lbs were blown, dragging two 150lb anchors and a concrete and steel mooring onto the shore.
The propellors were not yet on at the time. As we bagan to drag, we could not power to the lee of the nearby Island.
Once Hadar had settled onto the mangrove shore, we all went back to sleep. Knowing, it would be dangerous to leave during the storm and there was nothing more that we could do that night.
I spent the next several months getting Hadar off the rocks and repairing the damage. The balance of our California partner's investment intended to finish Hadar, was instead spent repairing her.
We were on schedual to finish Hadar within the next four months. But we have been dead in the water since then.
We have been able to do nothing for the last eight months. . . .
