Went to see Joe (Tappeiner, drums) play with his first gig with ".Caliber". Man they rock!!!
I'll make sure to catch them again.
Joe and I (along with a bunch of other Ocala musicians) will be going to support out friend and drummer Sean Beamer this Wednesday (1/21). Sean is the drummer for Molly Hatchet, and they'll be in Ocala performing a show at "MIdnight Rodeo", can't wait.
Still planning on entering the studio with Joe and Dean (Jerome Robinson Project) to record our demo.
I'll let you know what transpires..........

Sent a CD of material to Dean. He hasn't yet heard any of the new material, um...., hopefully he'll still want to play once he does :)  .
The plan is to enter the studio within the next week or so to record the demo that will be distributed with the press kit.
Once we get that to Stan (Stan Brown - Tour Mgr / Agent, etc.), we'll be on our  way..., well, you know what I mean.....

Just met with premier sax-man Dean Mongerio tonight. Things look good for the future!
Joe, Dean, Stan (tour/mgr - agent), and myself are all pumped for the upcoming year!
I'll be getting Dean a copy of the material this week, then we'll schedule rehearsals.
We've been batting some ideas around regarding cover material and other details of the show. I don't want to reveal too much yet but..., looks like I'll be utilizing my upright during the show (hot diggitty!!!).
Anyway, I'll keep you all updated as stuff happens....
Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season.....

Hey all!!! Quick update. Just finished a show (12/19) with Wrecked Overture at "The Connection" (www.connectionlive.com) in Hudson, FL.
Excellent club!! Huge stage, sound and lighting. One of the best production staffs we've worked with! Can't wait to play there again.
The show almost didn't happen. Without going into too many details, our drummer, Jerome Jowais, had some..., um..., "transportation issues". Anyway, he was able to get a lift to the gig, however, he went the wrong direction down the interstate and wound up about an hour in the wrong direction before he came to realize his navigational error (drummers... sheesh!!!).
Anyway, he did get there...., in plenty of time (luckily). Matt took plenty of digital video, which he should be sending "stills" of. As soon as I get them, I'll post them.
Tonight (12/22) I'll be performing with "The Wayne Cote Jazz Trio". We'll be playing tracks off of Waynes Christmas album.
The event (I found out a bit late) is a private one. Hmm... how many people had I invited before finding this out?!?!?
I spent this past Saturday mixing the album (kind of late.... yeah, I know..., I've been busy...., get off my back :).
Anyway, it sounds cool. Real cool vibe. Wayne called me this morning stating that he noticed the album had a "bonus track" (wisenhiemer). I'm thinkin'.., bonus track?!?!?!
Turns out that one of my updates to the CD insert did not take, and left the second song off of the track list.
Oh well.......
Anyway..., should be fun tonight. I'll be playing upright all night (poor audience members :).
Until later........

Ok.. update..... we had planned an "open rehearsal" for later this week at K&K in Ocala. However, due to the fast approaching holiday, it seemed best to wait until after the holidays.
However, I was excited to hear from some old friends of mine this past weekend (Tony and Kathy Mongerio of "Sounds Of Time Entertainment"). Thier son, Dean, jammed with me (and a band I used to be with, "The Dwight Champagne Band") back in '96.
Anyway, Dean is a premier sax-man..,.hmm.... :)
Now, I know what I said in an earlier post about Joe and I performing as a duo..., but.. the chance to work with Dean was too good to pass up. Also, I had reservations about going on the road as a duo..., I'm chicken..., so sue me :) !!
Actually..., I thought we could present a more rounded and quality show as a trio (no, really, I did, really....).
So... in the mean time (as I attempt to contact Dean), I'm preparing for a show with Wrecked Overture (12/19 , Friday)  at The Connection (http://www.connectionlive.com) in Hudson FL., and Monday (12/22) with the Wayne Cote Jazz Trio at The Glass Grape (Jasmine Plaza, State Rd 200, Ocala).
Stan has been busy negotiating this fast approaching tour (cool-beans), Joe and I have been busy rehearsing our show (cooler-beans), and Christmas is around the corner (coolest-beans)!!!
So, in case I don't post anything for a while.... hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!!!!
Oh...., I almost forgot.... regarding my last post about hoping to get fed at the 12/12 Christmas Party...., WE GOT FED!!! Man was that food good, they even gave us quite a bit to take home!! To quote a good friend of mine ("Sanction" drummer, Gordon Kudary), "now that's what I'm talkin' about!!!!!"

Rehearsed with Joe last night for upcoming tour..., very cool. We're writing new material that we can't wait to unleash on the public. We've been recording demo's and hope to go into the studio soon.
Also, Stan, our tour manager, has been busy contacting clubs in the South Florida area. We've also discussed taking  "SoundPrint" out on the road as our support act.
SoundPrint is comprised of John Pulice on bass, and Tom Carlucci on drums. Same basic format as Joe and I , but totally different sound.
Looking forward to seeing what pairing our two bands together will be like.
Tonight I have another Christmas party to play with One Flite Up (hopefully we'll get fed this time!!!!)

Hi all.... In reading the recently posted journal entries, I realized there was a "bit" of a lapse of info.... So.., I'll attempt to address that issue right now..
First off..., thanks to all of you who wished me well on my birthday (12/8) .. cool!!!
Wrecked Overture has re-united with drummer Jerome Jowais. We've got shows coming up (keep checking my tourdates page) and a new website (www.wreckedoverture.com) coming soon.
Re: my solo band. After numerous rehearsals with other instrumentalists (wayne - keys, and various sax players), it was decided to take the music in a different direction. Joe and I will be performing as a duo.
Instead of an extra musician (which we may still have from time to time), we'll have sampled "events" (ala Rush).
This idea intrigues me because I'll get to use my keyboards again (I have quite a few old synths, samplers, etc).
Tonight (12/9) will be our first rehearsal using this format (cool).
Anyway..., Joe and I will be backing Wayne in his jazz trio (look for Waynes Christmas album to be released real soon, um.. , like, before Christmas :).
So, in that sense, we'll still be working with Wayne.
Re: the Christmas party that One Flite Up played (12/5)..., we didn't get fed (arrghh!). Thank God for McDonalds....
Oh..., I forgot to mention.... Matt and I went to the G3 show in Clearwater..
man, what a show!!!! Yngwie is KING!!! Steve RULES!!! Satch is THE MAN (nuff said)!!!
I guess that's all for now.... I'll try to keep you updated as stuff happens!!

Can't believe it's December already. Recorded Wayne's Christmas album last night (The Wayne Cote Jazz Trio - "Home For Christmas"). Came out pretty cool, can't wait to hear the final mix.
Joe (Tappeiner, drummer) hit the nail on the head when he said this album has the vibe of a 78rpm record.
I played my upright bass for the whole session. Man do I feel it today :)
Anyway, tonight I'll be with One Flite Up performing at a corporate Christmas party (hmm...., free food!!!!)

Rehearsed with Donald J. & Co. tonight. They are an R&B-Jazz band
fronted by guitarist Donald J.
Vocalist J. Christy is also performing with the band...., man, what a vocalist and performer!
I love watching him work, whether in the studio, or on stage.
We ran through some old Motown stuff, Barry White and material of that nature.
It was fun to recreate those tunes.
The session was held at guitarist Bill Foote's house. His house is more
of a studio than a home.... way cool!!! Vintage gear everywhere, also a state of the art
recording studio (anolog and digital)! I spoke with BIll briefly re: maybe recording the solo project (me and & Joe "Bohnam" Tappeiner).. cool.
The gig we're rehearsing for is this weekend in Crystal River... should be fun.

Its 2:33am (so actually its 08/02/03) and I just got home. Tonight I had a gig with Nightshift (coverband, Elks Lodge gig). I used my newly aquired Carlo Robelli 8-string for the first time live. Man..., it fills up the sound nice!
After the show, I met with Wayne Cote (keyboardist) at his gig at the Ocala Holiday Inn (used to be the H. Inn , cant remember what its called now).
A few days ago I placed an ad in an online music classifieds for a keyboardist (for my solo stuff) and Wayne answered.
Cool guy. His career spans gigs with Carnival Cruise Lines, George Benson, and The Tonight Show, just to name a few.
I gave him a copy of my CD. Ill see what he thinks of it tomorrow (oh yeah, technically.., it is tomorrow right now).
After hanging with Wayne for a while, I headed downtown to catch my friends in Wig Wag.
Wig Wag is a funk/rock band of the highest caliber. With Pete Atria on guitar, Tony Sperelazza on bass, and Joey Stickler on drums, they are the baddest band in the land!
Tomorrow (yeah I know, technically later tonight) I have another gig with Nightshift. Ill probably see Wayne again, then Wig Wag. Then the next day (8/3) I have a daytime outdoor gig with One Flite Up.... cool...,   my 8-string is cool....,     friends in bands are cool.....,    gigging is cool....,    sleeping is cool..... ,     I think Ill do that right now........

Spoke with Gary Dennis (keyboardist). Turns out hes looking for a more straight-forward type of rock band. Oh well, time to start putting together a list of other possibles for my solo thing....

Took family on short vacation for a few days to St. Augustine and Jacksonville.
While in Jax, got call from Matt who was in Nashville for the NAMM show.
It seems that Matt ran into quite a few people up there, and made a few cool contacts.
Acouple of the people Matt ran into were Steve Morse and Dave Larue.
Dave used to teach bass at Matts store (where Wrecked Overtrue rehearses). Turns out Dave may be teaching there again... cool.
Hmmm...., Id better start practicing if Daves going to be hanging around :)

Second night at Tin Cup. Same as last night (cool). Played my P-bass tonight (bought strings for it today). Love the sound of that bass......

Played Tin Cups Tavern (Downtown Ocala) with One Flite Up tonight. Great crowd!! Had tons of fun. Sound was great (good job Fraiser!!!).
Had to play my Yamaha bass tonight. Brought the P-bass with me, but the strings were just too dead (wah).
Before tonights show, I went across the street (on the square) to catch some friends of mine play (Rewind). Great band! The weather was perfect tonight for an outdoor show.
A lot of the people (including the guys from Rewind) came to our show afterward.
Looking forward to tomorrow night... same bat time ..... same bat channel.......

Sorry I havent written in a while. The drummer situation with Wrecked Overture is kind of on hold. We havent had the success we had hoped for with the ads that had been placed.
Of course, neither Matt or myself live anywhere near where the really happening musicians are, so its been kind of hit and miss (until one of us can spend some quality time in Orlando or Tampa).
In the mean time, weve been keeping ourselves busy.
At the urging of my wife (Miki), Ive been working on putting a band together to perform some of my solo stuff.
Now...., I know what youre thinking..... uh oh..., solo project... , but this is something Ive been involved in before and during my time in Wrecked Overture.
If youve been on my website (http://www.jrbass.cjb.net), youve seen mention of my album Thinking Out Loud.
Well, Ive been writing new solo bass material (have been for a while), and just now am starting to think about performing it live.
Today I finally made contact with Gary Dennis, keyboardist extrordonaire (he also plays bass).
My solo band will consist of myself (bass), Gary (keys), Joe Tappenier (drums), and Charlie Tagliafaro (sax).
Im sending Gary a copy of my album tomorrow (my CD burner is buring his copy as I type this). Hopefully hell want to sign on to the project......
Ill keep you all informed...

Not much new to write as I sit here on the beach in St. Pete with my laptop (sometimes technology doesnt suck).
As I mentioned in my last writing, we were about to audition drummer #5......
Drummer #5 made a valiant attempt....., however...., not quite what we were looking for.
Drummer #6 came in several days after to try-out.... hmm....not bad!!
In the mean time (during these drummer try-outs), Matt has decided to prepare to record more of our material. In doing so, weve enlisted the services of.... hmmm, lets just say weve enlisted the services of another bands drummer, someone who, by the way, I used to perform with. Anyway, SOD (Someone Elses Drummer) came in and blew us all away!!!
It figures..., since we cant have him.
SOD will be back for another pre-recording studio rehearsal session tomorrow.
Hmm...., kidnaping is still a Federal crime......isnt it..........?

Just got finished doing a show (private party) with One Flite Up. Recently spoke with Matt, whos preparing for a show tonight at Sharkeys with Madnessthespiv. Matt said he already recvd a call from a drummer who saw us on TV (just aired last night - cool). However, the guy said that besides playing drums, he also sang and played guitar. He then added that drums were his only weak point. Um..... scuse me, but..... we did say we were looking for a drummer... didnt we?!?!
Anyway, well be auditioning drummer #5 tomorrow (Sunday). Well see how it goes.
The party I played at today was outdoors.... it was way too hot for that. While I go home to  lapse into a coma brought on from playing a 4-hour outdoor gig, Matt will be having fun on stage with Madnessthespiv.... in an air-conditioned venue..... whatever......

Well, heres the first in what I hope to be many journals following the ins and outs of my musical happenings with Wrecked Overture and other projects.
Today (Sat, 5/10) Matt and I taped a segment on the TV show The Connect Zone (www.theconnectzone.com). We talked with host Doc Redwater about what weve been up to lately. But our main objective was to announce our search for a drummer.
As you all probably know, Wrecked Overture and drummer Jerome Jowais parted ways. Weve been searching for a drummer for the past two months.
Weve had several drummers audition, but continue to search.
In the mean time, Matt and I have been keeping ourselves busy coming up with new promotion and live production ideas.
Weve also been playing in other music projects (cant be gettin rusty).
Matts been filling in as guitarist for Madnessthespsiv, and Ive been playing with my old bands One Flite Up, and NightShift.
I guess thats all for right now....
