TORG is another role-playing game like D&D or Saga. Torg is actually the second game system that I successfully ran a long-running campaign in (the first was D&D), and I continue to hold it in high regard, both as a system and in nostalgia.

Compared to D&D, I always considered TORG a simple system. It has a number of tables, but all actions resolve themselves around a single, simple mechanic that involves rolling a d20, adding in an Attribute score, and comparing the result to a table. Of course, its a bit more complex than that, but I preferred it to trying to figure out which Saving Throw we were using, or if the action the character was trying to perform fit under a Thief Skill or a Proficiency. Of course, compared to modern games like d20 or the Storyteller system, TORG seems a bit rules-heavy (or at least table heavy).

The other nice thing about TORG was the meta-plot of the setting. The setting had multiple worlds invading Earth, and the PCs were defenders of the beleagered war-torn planet. Since the multiple worlds each had a different feel (and fit into a different genre), there was always an unlimited number of stories that could be told.

A while back, one of my regular group players decided to run a TORG game. Although the game never got off of the ground, I did create a character with a backhistory that I liked. In these pages is the information about the character I planned to run in that game including his background and a character sheet. Someday maybe I'll get a chance to run Fr. Ranier through another game.
