Assignments:
Complete all study guides and practice workbook pages. All work is to be completed daily, and may be collected on the day the assignment is issued. Expect to complete a lesson each day. Every two or three days, plan to take a quiz. Most quizzes are announced. There will be a Mid-Chapter Test and a Chapter Test. Prior to each Chapter Test, a study guide and cumulative review will be provided. It is your responsibility to reflect this information in your agenda issued the first day of school. **Don't forget to keep up with the Daily Maintenance Skills.
Chapter 1 will be completed by the end of August. We will cover all lessons. It is important to fully understand the order of operations, the different properties, and solving inequalities.
Chapter 2 will be introduced towards the end of the first nine weeks.
Chapter 3 will begin by early September. This chapter will require you to apply previously learned skills from Chapters 1 and 2. We will use formulas to solve problems, and work with decimals and inequalities.
Chapter 4 skills will be explored in October. This chapter, a continuation of chapter 3, will cover decimals and the metric system.
Chapter 5 should begin around early November. We will continue to work with fractions, solving equations, measuring, and looking to solve patterns in arithmetic and geometric sequences.
Chapter 6 will be covered during the month of December. Specific objectives will include adding and subtracting fractions, and mastering estimation and time.
Chapter 7 should begin upon return from the winter vacation. We will solve two- step equations, multiply and divide fractions, calculate circumference, and learn about the customary system.
Chapter 8 will be introduced during the month of January. We will delve into exploring ratios, proportions, and percents.
Chapter 9 will introduce geometry and investigating patterns.
Chapter 10 will continue geometry with understanding area and volume.
Chapters 11 and 12 will be introduced towards the end of the year, covering pre-algebra skills. Students will work with positive and negative integers, solve equations, and graph transformations and functions.
Chapter 13 will cover probability and statistics, during the last month of school.
You have completed the textbook. Enjoy your summer!
