HEDLEY MURTON I am sure that many of the lads, as we were, would love to know how our favourite wren from HMS Mercury, got on in life. Her name was ANNA LEVERSON-GOWER, and she was a transport driver, beloved by all the communications branch for her practise of scrubbing her name off the wardroom dance list and then visiting the wet canteen. A lovely lady and a "big sister" to all of us. If someone was coming off watch and needed a ride to the nearest bus stop, Anna would prevail upon her assigned passenger, often the padre, to gain a seat in the transport. As I said, a good, good friend. Contact [email protected]

HOLLIDAY Bill. For my sins I am a former Royal who was recalled for duty owing to the Suez crisis in 1956 and sent to Chatham to cook in the galley. I became very friendly with two Ma Wrens. One was a very good singer but the other one by the name of Harriet, nicknamed "Harry" (don't know any other names) came from the North East of England, used to come into the galley and have a cuppa with me, and listen to Army Forces Network country music. It would be nice to meet up with such a lovely friend again. E-mail mailto:[email protected]
MIKE CORBIN. I have been trying to make contact with a Wren I
was stationed with at HMS Vernon, but, I cannot remember her
surname. Her name was Jane and she came from Liverpool. We
served at Vernon in 1964/65 before I went across to HMS Dolphin to do my
submarine training. Unfortunately in those days, as soon as you
finished training you were sent to sea, and in my case, to the Far
East on the A boat HMS Andrew. By the time I got back I had lost
touch with her. At the time that I knew her she had a friend
called Ann, also a Wren who lived in Weymouth who was going out with an
RPO from HMS Vernon, and we used to go out together. My family lived in
Northampton at the time and Jane and I visited on long weekend
leaves. It would be really nice to know how she is and what she
has been doing over the last 35 years E-mail
