i had only slept for two hours when my mother calling for me from her room broke through the whatever dream. she said she couldn't stop shivering, she was so cold, i heard her teeth clatter as i threw another blanket over her.
"it's okay," i said, "it happened to me as well, you'll be alright." but she didn't seem convinced and her teeth kept clattering. i reminded her of the time i came home with the shivers as well, but she didn't remember. i remember, i slept on the floor covered in blankets that did nothing to stop my bones from creeking with cold that wouldn't thaw out.
mom's got some vicious 24-hour flu. at least, that's what i diagnosed it as while i brought her some ibuprofen and water. i set her alarm clock for seven (this was 5 am) to call in sick and went back to bed for another four hours.
now that's a june morning for you.
me, i'm not nearly caught up. i've got a mailbox of notes crying for my attention, "jennie, what do you think of the mcveigh thing?" and "jennie, you haven't mailed me in ages!" and the usual mailinglists i can't figure out how to unsubscribe from and the penis enlargment ads.
oh, great. it appears i've got a sudden runny nose. now, i'm not pointing any fingers, but if i hear a clattering of teeth in my head before entering my apartment, i know where to snarl.
puh. and it's june.
