Can we please get something to eat? asked Loioth in a pitiful voice. I'm very hungry. "Of course we can," Talen laughed. "After being stuck in that shell so long with no food, it's a wonder you haven't eaten your tail." I would never do a thing like that, protested the hatchling. And you should stop thinking of yourself as Talen from this moment on. You're now T'len, my rider and I will not have you acting otherwise. You could be thinking of finding me some food instead.
"Alright, alright, let's head over to the weyrling barracks. They have fresh meat for you there." The little brown seemed pleased with this proposal and floundered along beside T'len as fast as he could. When they reached the barracks, the Weyrlingmaster handed them a bowl of meat and motioned them over to the side to make room for the other newly Impressed and their hatchlings.. "Looks like you did alright for yourself young T'len," he said, grinning. "Mind that your dragon doesn't gorge. What's his name then?" "Loioth," the new rider said with pride. "I think I'll call him Loyo for short." I don't care what you call me, so long as you feed me. Now! "Better do as he says lad. A hungry hatchling is a snappish hatchling." Nodding to show that he understood, T'len kneeled down and began feeding Loyo chunks of meat, trying to keep him from choking on the larger ones. In no time at all, the bowl was empty and the distented belly of the brown was very obvious. Luckily, it was only a short walk to their new bunk.

While Loyo settled down for a long slumber, Kayne and Gedno couldn't leave him alone. What was this new creature, and what claim
did it have to their master? It looked like a slightly larger version of the little brown flit, but how could that be? "Settle down you two, and let the poor thing get some sleep. He's eaten enough that he needs it. He's a new addition to our little group and you should try not to bother him too much these first few days, no matter how much you want to. Just give him a chance to settle in." He looked down at the sleeping dragon and smiled softly. When he had looked into those whirling,
irridescent eyes, he had known that no matter how angry he got, no matter how unsure he was of himself and the world, someone would always be there for him, showing him the truth. That was truth in itself, and he fell asleep thinking of all that he had just been given. He fell asleep at peace.
