Well, I'm sure many famous voyages have been done with Alacrities. The problem, however, is that the stories need still to be told. When I talk about famous voyages, I mean trips one usually don't expect from this small a boat. But then again, what a boat can do, depends very much on the skipper, and in most cases the boat handles bad conditions far better than the crew. Cruise Logs All Alacrity cruises may not be ocean crossings or other famous trips. However, they can be interesting to document. In this section I will post links to Online cruise logs of Alacrity owners. | Famous Voyages Atlantic crossings At least nine Alacrities are told to have crossed the Atlantic, according to Russel Marine itself. Florida - Grand Bahamas In May 1999 Lewis I. Hansen sailed his Alacrity Barnacles from Florida to Grand Bahama and back crossing the Gulf Stream. (source: His own article in Twin Keeler Newsletter, vol5, issue 1) Great Britain to the Med (via canals) Nick Entract sailed an Alacrity from Great Britain to the Mediterranean and back via the French canals in 1975. He lived on his boat "Hotfly" for 6 months, first with a mate and then with his girlfriend. Here is his exclusive cruise report. His homepage with some info and photos of his other boats is here. San Felipe, Baja to Costa Rica Two brothers named Bob and Jeff Crum and a girl named Jennie sailed their Alacrity "Delfina" in the Sea of Cortez. After trailering the boat to San Felipe they sailed 3000 miles to Costa Rica where they sold the boat not wanting to sail back upwind. The story is on this page (scroll down quite a bit). |
